The user painpoint was that the research done before purchasing a mutual fund was not adequate enough on the app. Users also felt a lack of security when logging into the app.

the solution

Redesign the Cherry app with improved UX on onboarding, home screen and mutual fund transaction pages. After the redesign, the app will cater to 32 million customers of Kotak Mahindra Bank directly helping them to invest.

As primary qualitative research, we took 8 in-person interviews with users, who use Cherry's competitors a lot. This helped to find the most important and frequently used functions of apps, user’s pain points, and challenges.
Along with this, we conducted usability tests of the old app with 8 existing customers to discover problems, what users liked and disliked.


Pain points discovered during user interview:

  1. Cherry didn't make them feel secured with their investments. We learned that users feel stressed post investment.

  2. Current journey of mutual funds pre-purchase research was not as per industry standard. No sleek graphs to play around with NAV.

  3. No clear CTAs on home screen.

  1. Users wanted to see their portfolio returns/transaction status right after logging into the app.

  2. Users would like a quicker way to access stocks and mutual funds watchlist.

  3. The performance of the mutual fund before investing, and its peer comparison was key for user's to research before purchasing.

  4. After logging in, users also need to see the status of their transaction without going into the transaction screen.

  5. Users needed notifications about major changes in the portfolio with reasoning.
